The smallest member of the Q family – the Audi Q2 has won Gold in the German Design Award competition. Presented at Frankfurt yesterday, the compact SUV secured the highest award for “Excellent Production Design – Transportation.”

“The Audi Q2 surprises with a design that is fully independent and not just a scaled-down version of its big brother,” the jury said in their decision. The new SUV presents itself as an automobile with balanced proportions, which offers plenty of space for its class and is at least as much fun. “This elegant car has the potential to be a trendsetter,” according to the jury’s summary.

The German Design Award is presented by the German Design Council and is one of the most prestigious competitions in the design industry.

First unveiled at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, the Audi Q2 is available in six different engines internationally, with power ranging from 116 hp to 190 hp. If launched in India, Audi will most likely offer the 1.4L TFSI and a 2.0L TDI.

The Q2 is currently being produced at the main plant of AUDI AG in Ingolstadt, Germany, on the same line as the A3. It passes through the body shop, paint shop and assembly together with the A3. After all, both are built on the same platform.
