The pricing of the Jeep products in India disappointed many enthusiasts, and Jeep couldn’t do much either because all of them were brought to India via CBU route paying insane amount of import duties. However, the company will be producing the 2017 Jeep Compass at Ranjangaon plant in Pune, and if the media reports are to be believed, the affordable SUV from Jeep will be in the Indian market by August.

FCA has invested $280 Million at the Tata-Fiat collaborated Ranjangaon plant, and Compass will be the first Jeep to roll out of it. The SUV has already been spotted testing several times around Pune.

The Compass, now in its second generation, is based on “Smal Wide 4X4” platform – jointly developed by GM and Fiat, and is also shared with Jeep Renegade. For Compass, the platform has been extended for longer wheel base.

In US market, the Compass retails at a starting price of $19,940, which roughly translates to Rs 13.5 lakh. The Compass is available both in FWD and 4WD, and with two engine options – 2.4 and 2.0 litre 4 cylinder petrol engines, with 5 Speed manual, 6 Speed auto or a CVT.

Features wise, it packs a UConnect infotainment system, leather seats, sunroof, 6 airbags, ESC and so on. Jeep is currently expanding its dealer network in India, and the Compass is expected to be priced competitively for obvious reasons.
