You might remember reading about this tiny B-segment crossover called Jeep Avenger not too long ago; it was launched in Europe as a front-wheel-drive BEV with modest figures of 115 kW (156 metric hp) and 260 Nm (192 lb-ft). Well, now a mild-hybrid variant has joined the lineup, with prices in Italy starting at €26,000. A regular petrol version is also available, with prices starting at €24,300.

In Italy, the ICE-powered models are available in three grades: Longitude, Altitude and Summit. The Summit boasts 18-inch alloy wheels, LED projector headlights and LED taillight signatures. The base model rides on 16-inch alloy wheels but gets full LED headlights. The mid-spec Altitude rides on 17-inch alloy wheels and shows off its silver skid plates.

Inside, it’s pretty much the same affair as its EV sibling. Depending on the trim, you get a 10.25-inch digital cluster, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, single-zone auto AC, multi-color ambient lighting, an electrochromic frameless rear-view mirror, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and some ADAS stuff, of course. The base model gets a 7-inch digital cluster as standard.

By the way, if you want the so-called Open-Air Sky Roof, you’ve to pay €1,000 extra. But anyway, the mild-hybrid powertrain is a combo of a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and a 21 kW (28.5 metric hp) electric motor integrated into a 6-speed DCT.

It offers a power output of 73.5 kW (100 metric hp) and an undisclosed amount of torque (205 Nm/151 lb-ft if my guess is right). Although it’s a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, the technology allows the ICE to be turned off in certain situations for efficiency benefits. This mode is activated in urban areas at speeds of less than 30 km/h (18.5 mph); useful during creeping and parking the vehicle. The regular petrol model also offers 100 metric hp and is coupled with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
