2017 Ford EcoSport facelift starts testing in India

Ford starts to test the updated EcoSport in India, which was unveiled at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show. The new EcoSport is expected to be launched in the country sometime in September – October. For the first time, Ford is planning to launch the EcoSport in the US market in 2018 with a 4WD option as well.

On the exterior, changes are mainly on the front fascia. The large grille has been pushed upwards, and the lower air dam is now a bit larger. New fog lamps are much larger, and the bumper has been redesigned as well with a silver-ish skid plate. Other obvious change is a new alloy wheel design.

There’s is no change in the rear design of the India-spec EcoSport, and the tailgate mounted spare wheel continues to be in the facelift as well. However, the US-spec model gets a minor change in the rear bumper design, and might not carry the the tailgate mounted spare wheel.

Major changes are on the inside, where the dashboard layout has been changed. There is a new floating infotainment display with lots of orange accents. The infotainment is expected to support Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and navigation. Expected features list include a 675 Watt Bang & Olufsen surround sound system, automatic climate control, cruise control, voice recognition and ambient lighting.

No mechanical changes are expected for the Indian market, the facelift will most likely continue to offer the current 1.5 litre Ti-VCT petrol, 1.5 litre TDCi diesel and the 1.0 litre EcoBoost petrol options. While the 5-Speed manual is standard, a 6-Speed DCT is exclusive to the 1.5 litre Ti-VCT.

For the US market, the 1.0 litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol for FWD models and a 2.0 litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol for AWD models, paired to a 6-Speed auto is expected. The US models too will be produced at the Ford’s Chennai facility.
