Isuzu MU-X details surface ahead of May 11 India launch

Isuzu has planned to launch the MU-X in India on May 11th, and the details have surfaced online. The MU-X is a traditional ladder chassis/body-on-frame SUV. So, without wasting anymore time, lets dive in.

Engine & Transmission
The MU-X will be powered by a 3.0 litre (2,999 cc) 4-cylinder variable geometry turbo diesel, producing 177 PS (174.5 hp) of power @ 3600 rpm and 380 Nm of torque @ 1800 – 2800 rpm. Transmission is a 5-Speed automatic featuring ‘Terrain Command’ control with ‘shift-on-the-fly’ 4WD system. The 4WD system gets 2-High, 4-High and 4-Low range.

Features
Isuzu calls the exterior design as ‘Tiger-inspired muscular design’. Exterior features include projector headlamps, LED DRLs and 17-inch multi-spoke diamond cut alloy wheels. Interiors get dual tone theme with leather upholstery, piano black accents, auto AC with cooling for all 3 rows, cruise control, keyless entry, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with bluetooth, roof mounted 10-inch DVD monitor, roof mounted sound system with 8 speakers, day/night IRVM and many more.

Safety
Safety features include 4-channel ABS with EBD, Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), ESC, Traction Control, Hill-start Assist, dual front airbags, ISOFIX mounts for second row, reversing camera and pre-tensioners with load limiters for front seat belts.

Suspension
Front suspension is an independent double wishbone setup with coil springs and gas shock absorbers, while the rear is a penta-link suspension (5-link) with gas shock absorbers.

Brakes
Braking duties are handled by 300 mm discs with twin-pot calipers at front and 318 mm discs at the rear. The 17-inch alloys are shod with 255/65 tires.

Boot space measures 235 litres when all 3 rows are up, 878 litres when the 3rd row folded, 1,830 litres when 2nd and 3 rows are folded flat.

The MU-X will be produced at Isuzu’s Sri City facility in Andhra Pradesh. Once launched, the Ford Endeavour, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and the segment leader Toyota Fortuner will have a new rival.
