As we know already, the compact SUVs are a rage these days, especially the sub-4 metre ones in India. Even a hatchback designed to look like an SUV (you know the one from France), will do great numbers for the manufacturer.

Several people I know personally, have bought an “SUV” as their first car. While MSIL and Hyundai are posting big sales numbers every month, Ford is about to launch their updated EcoSport and Renault is all set to launch the Captur soon.

And Toyota appears to be missing a lot in this segment. The Fortuner and Innova Crysta are too large and cumbersome for many. Given the reliable reputation that the T badge carries, this might be the one that many Indians are looking for as the CH-R might not come here at all.

The Daihatsu DN TREC is a concept at the moment. But, the production version with a T badge might do wonders in the Indian market. The “active, fun and tough” vehicle will have an option of a 1.2L hybrid powertrain or a 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine.
