The third generation BMW Z4 which made its debut as a concept at Concours d’Elegance, Pebble Beach, last year, will be produced at the contract manufacturer Magna Steyr’s facility in Graz, Austria.

Magna said that the production is scheduled to begin at the end of 2018. The new Z4 marks the fifth vehicle nameplate Magna is producing in Graz.

Magna’s co-operation with the Bavarian manufacturer dates back to 2001. In 2003, the first BMW X3 manufactured by Magna rolled off the production line. Currently, the company produces 5 Series at the facility, including the plug-in hybrid variant.

Magna Steyr is better known for producing the G-Class. The company also produces the Jaguar’s first all-electric vehicle – I-Pace.

“Our expertise in complete vehicle engineering and production makes us unique and the ideal partner for the industry,” said Günther Apfalter, President of Magna Europe and Magna Steyr. “We are very pleased that we can further strengthen our relationship with the BMW Group and continue to solidify our overall position in the industry with new business like this.”

The new BMW Z4 was often spotted alongside the new Toyota Supra, suggesting a joint development. The new Supra too made its debut as a Racing Concept in March 2018. More on that here.
