Other features include R-Design leather seats, 12.3-inch instrument cluster, 2-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, 9-inch portrait-style touchscreen with navigation, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, 13-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, wireless charging and rain sensors.

Active and passive safety
Support/assistance systems include Adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation (front), lane keeping aid, Park Assist Pilot, Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Control and reversing camera. Further safety kit includes 7 airbags (front & side) and tyre pressure monitoring system.

Powertrain
The XC40 in India is powered by a 2.0-litre (1969 cc) D4 twin turbo diesel engine, delivering 190 hp @ 4000 rpm and 400 Nm of torque @ 1750-2500 rpm. The engine is paired to an 8-speed automatic that sends power to the all four wheels via Haldex AWD system. Top speed is limited to 210 km/h.

“The XC40 is our first offering in the entry-level SUV segment and with this, Volvo completes its range across all luxury SUV segments – Compact, Mid-size and Full-size,” said Charles Frump, Managing Director, Volvo Car India. “It has an edgy design and a host of segment-first intuitive technology that makes life less complicated. The launch of XC40 and our aggressive dealer expansion of 1 new dealer per month this year are the key success factors in achieving our ambition of doubling segment share by 2020.”

The XC40 R Design is available in 3 colors – Crystal White, Bursting Blue and Passion red. In the international markets, the XC40 gets Volvo’s first 3-cylinder engine. More on that here.
