2015 was a hugely successful year for Mercedes-Benz India launching 15 cars as promised, and sales touching 13,000+ units. For 2016 the company has 12 cars lined up, one for each month hoping to continue dominating the Indian luxury car market. Mercedes expands its S-Class line up in India by launching the S400 luxury sedan at a price of Rs 1.31 Crores ex-showroom, Hyderabad.

The S400 sits between S350 and S500, and is for those want not just the luxury but better running costs. The S400 is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine producing 333 hp of power and 480 Nm of torque, and is mated to 7G-Tronic automatic transmission.

“We are excited to introduce the 9th variant of our flagship model. The S 400 will be locally manufactured in our world-class production facility in Chakan, Pune. This is yet another firm affirmation of our vision of ‘make in India’, and our unwavering commitment to the Indian customer in presenting the best of our global offerings.” – Roland Folger, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes Benz India.

Aesthetically the S400 doesn’t have any differences compared to the other trims except the badging on the rear, and has the same striking looks as the other S-Class models. The arched roofline, flowing contours and dropping lines help the S-Class achieve a low drag co-efficient of 0.24, one of the lowest for a luxury car of this caliber. The S400 features an all LED headlamps and a panoramic sunroof as standard.

The S400 comes with all the creature comforts you’d expect from a car of this class. Key features of the interior include a plush leather upholstery, with the centre console, seats and door panels in leather. The dashboard is a combination of contemporary design featuring sleek horizontal lines, which along with the wood trim imparts the touch of luxury. Along with that, the S400 gets a 24 speaker 1540 W Burmester Surround Sound system, ambient lighting with 7 colors and 5 dimming levels, individual entertainment system for the rear passengers, hot stone massage functionality and a whole lot more. Since the Indian govt regulations has barred the use of radar scanner on public roads, the S400 misses out the Magic Body Control – a radar scanner based technology which adjusts dampers based on the road conditions.
