The Mercedes‑AMG Concept AMG GT XX we saw last year, an evolved version of the Vision AMG concept from 2022, drew a bunch of polarizing opinions online, but it didn’t look too bad, did it? Well, now we have the production version here, and I haven’t seen even a single positive comment yet. It seems like the second-gen AMG GT 4-Door Coupe has disappointed fans and the general public alike in the looks department. But let’s see if those opinions change in the coming months.
As mentioned, we’re looking at the second-gen AMG GT 4-Door Coupe. It is built on the AMG.EA architecture, which means, it’ll be available only with an all-electric powertrain. What about a V8? Well, there won’t be an actual V8 on offer, not on this platform, but in one of the driving modes named AMGFORCE Sport+, the car makes V8 sounds via speakers. I know exactly what you’re thinking, and I agree with whatever the f you’re thinking.
Initially, there’ll be two variants on offer: AMG GT 55 4-Door Coupe and AMG GT 63 4-Door Coupe. Both models come with three axial-flux electric motors. Two are at the back and one at the front, which means both models are AWD. The 55 model offers max output figures of 600 kW (816 metric hp) and 1,800 Nm (1,328 lb-ft). A 106 kWh battery pack is claimed to offer a WLTP combined range of up to 700 km (435 mi). The official 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time is 2.8 seconds. Kerb weight is claimed to be 2,460 kg (5,423 lbs).
The top-spec 63 model boasts 860 kW (1,169 metric hp) and 2,000 Nm (1,475 lb-ft). Battery pack is the same 106 kWh, and the WLTP range is claimed to be up to 696 km (432 mi). The official 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time in this case is 2.4 seconds. Kerb weight is claimed to be the same 2,460 kg (5,423 lbs). With the optional Drivers Pack, the top speed for both models is 300 km/h (186 mph).
As for the braking system, the car uses carbon-ceramic brakes on the front axle and steel brakes on the rear axle. This setup is apparently for weight optimization.
Some of the other key highlights include AMG Active Ride Control air suspension with semi-active roll stabilisation, active rear-axle steering, AMG Performance steering wheel with OLED displays, a 10.2-inch instrument cluster, a 14.0-inch touchscreen, an optional 14.0-inch passenger display, optional AMG Performance seats with integrated head restraints, optional Burmester High End 4D sound system, and optional automatic parking system.
