Vespa has unveiled the all-electric Elettrica scooter at this year’s EICMA show in Milan, Italy. The vehicle is production ready, and will go on sale in 2018.

The Elettrica’s power unit is capable of delivering a continuous power of 2 kW (2.7 metric hp) and a peak power of 4 kW (5.5 metric hp), and achieves a performance superior to a traditional 50 cc scooter, Vespa said. The instant acceleration, typical of an electric motor, provides an agile and enjoyable ride on urban roads, the company added.

Vespa Elettrica guarantees a range of 100 km, and for those who want more, it also appears in the X version which has a generator alongside the electric motor, doubling its range. The lithium-ion battery can be fully charged in 4 hours, apparently.

The Elettrica also gets a Vespa Multimedia Platform that connects the user’s smartphone to the vehicle and can be managed via the color TFT display.

Vespa Elettrica will be wholly produced in Pontedera and will be exported worldwide.
