Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has launched the 8th generation Camry Hybrid in India, priced at Rs 36,95,000 ex-showroom, Delhi. The new Camry made its global debut back in 2017.
As with all the latest Toyota models, the new Camry too is based on the TNGA platform (Toyota New Global Architecture), and adopts the Keen Look design philosophy. The front fascia sports a slim upper grille with a bold, three-dimensional lower grille, while the side profile has low beltlines contributing to a low slung look. At the rear, wide wraparound LED taillights along with the raised shoulders give it a wider stance. The creases on the rear bumper mimic the front fascia.
The car also gets dusk-sensing LED Projector headlights with Auto Leveling feature, front LED fog lamps, rear fog lamps, ORVMs with memory, and 18-inch alloy wheels.
Y design dashboard
The interior of the new Camry is luxurious enough to put a Lexus badge. The dashboard gets an elegant stone grain and metallic texture finish along with beige leather upholstery. The feature list includes 10-way power-adjustable driver & passenger seat with lumbar support (driver seat with memory), ventilation for front seats, power tilt & telescopic steering column with memory, 3-zone climate control, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment with navigation, Head-Up Display, cruise control, 9-speaker JBL audio system, Qi wireless charging, tilt & slide moonroof, rear power sunshade, adjustable rear seats and touch controls on the rear armrest.
Safety kit includes 9 airbags, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, Brake Hold function, Vehicle Stability and Traction Control (with off switch), impact-sensing fuel cut-off, and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. In the international markets, the Camry gets an active safety package called Toyota Safety Sense P.
The Hybrid System comprises of a 2.5-litre (2,487 cc) 4-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor. The combustion engine produces 131 kW (176 bhp) at 5,700 rpm and 221 Nm of torque between 3,600-5,200 rpm, while the electric motor develops 88 kW (118 bhp) and 202 Nm of torque. The total system output, however, is 160 kW or about 215 bhp. Fuel efficiency is claimed to be 23.27 km/l.
A Nickel-metal hydride battery pack enables an EV mode too. Transmission is taken care of by an e-CVT with paddle shifters for simulated shifts.
The new Camry measures 4,885 mm in length, 1,840 mm in width and 1,455 mm in height. Wheelbase measures 2,825 mm. Kerb weight is 1,665 kg.
