Audi is now offering the 4th generation A6 allroad quattro, the off-road sibling of the A6 Avant. The year 2019 marks 20th anniversary for the A6 quattro as this versatile variant of the Avant premiered in 1999.

The new A6 allroad quattro body is up to 45 mm (1.8 in) higher than the Avant, and the ground clearance at standard ride height is 139 mm (5.5 in). The adaptive air suspension with controlled damping comes as standard in the A6 allroad quattro; it adjusts the ride height depending on the speed and mode set in the Audi drive select system.

In auto and comfort modes, the A6 allroad quattro sets off at standard ride height which can be actively adjusted with a speed-dependent control strategy. If the selected ride height is highest and the speed is max. 35 km/h, the body is raised 45 mm, and is lowered automatically when this speed is exceeded. At highway speeds above 120 km/h, the ride height is lowered by 15 mm. If the vehicle sets off in offroad mode, which covers speeds of up to 80 km/h, the body is 30 mm higher than the standard ride height. When traveling at speeds below 35 km/h, lift mode adds another 15 mm, raising the ground clearance to 45 mm above the normal position.

The A6 allroad quattro offers additional features including standard hill descent control and tilt angle assist. When negotiating light terrain, the driver can call up a display on the MMI monitor, which shows the current tilt angle in the longitudinal and transverse directions, and if the vehicle is at risk of tipping over, a warning appears. The off-road estate also offers all-wheel steering and the optional sport differential.

As standard, the new A6 allroad quattro rides on 18-inch wheels shod with 225/55 size tires. The largest optional wheels – available from Audi Sport, measure 21-inches in diameter.

As an alternative to the standard seats, which can be equipped with seat heating and ventilation, Audi also offers sport seats. The top-of-the-line is electrically adjustable customized contour seats which can be supplemented with a massage function.

Options include 12.3-inch Audi virtual cockpit, top-of-the-line MMI navigation plus (includes LTE module and Wi-Fi hotspot), head-up display, air quality package which adds subtle fragrances, 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, Tour assist package (includes functions such as efficiency assist, adaptive cruise assist and emergency assist), and City package (features include intersection assist and exit warning).

Powertrains
The 3.0 TDI is available in three output ratings. In 45 TDI, the tune is 170 kW (231 hp) and 500 Nm; in 50 TDI, the engine produces 210 kW (286 hp) and 620 Nm; the powerful 55 TDI offers 257 kW (349 hp) and 700 Nm of torque. The 0 to 100 km/h sprint is claimed to happen in 5.2 seconds in the 55 TDI.

All three TDI units come standard with Audi’s 48-volt mild hybrid technology which is claimed to reduce fuel consumption in real driving conditions by up to 0.4 liters per 100 km. The belt alternator starter recovers up to 8 kW of power during braking and feeds the electricity into a separate 10 Ah lithium-ion battery. The new A6 allroad quattro can coast with the engine switched off; start-stop mode kicks in right from 22 km/h.

The 8-speed tiptronic sends power to the all four wheels via standard quattro permanent all-wheel drive system. Via the Audi drive select system, the driver can choose – dynamic, automatic, comfort, efficiency, allroad and lift modes. As for active torque vectoring, the aforementioned optional sport differential distributes variable power between the rear wheels.

Audi is also launching the “20 years allroad” edition with visual upgrades inside-out.
