So far, the e-scooters have been two-wheelers that you find on the sidewalks of metropolitan cities these days, mostly operated by ride sharing companies. All you need is a mobile app to unlock and you scoot to your destination where you might not find a parking for your SUV. If used properly, the e-scooters can be ridiculously convenient to get around the city.

Which is why Audi has created this e-tron Scooter, with a difference. Unlike the traditional e-scooters, this one is a combination of a skateboard and e-scooter. The steering handle also holds the battery pack and related electronics; there’s also a display showing the battery status.

As you might have guessed, twisting the grip gets you going, just like a motorcycle, and twist the other way for braking. There’s also a hydraulic foot brake for additional safety. With recuperation, the range is claimed to be 20 km. Audi says that the users can conveniently cover the last miles at a speed of up to 20 km. The scooter can steer with both axles, meaning it has a small turning circle.

The e-tron Scooter is fitted with the legally required LED lights: a headlight, daytime running light, rear light, and brake light. Adjustments to the ride characteristics can be done via Bluetooth.

The Audi e-tron Scooter, combining the advantages of the electric scooter and the skateboard, is designed for sporty riders. To be transported by car, bus or train, the 12 kg (26 lbs) e-scooter can be folded up and conveniently stored in the back of the car, or if preferred pulled like a trolley. Above all, the Audi e-tron Scooter stands out thanks to its handling, which is like surfing waves. The rider has one hand free, and so is able to look around and give hand signals.

Audi plans to sell the e-tron Scooters to private buyers at the end of 2020, with a price tag of €2,000. The Scooter will also be offered to e-tron SUV buyers as an extra; it can be charged in the trunk through a dedicated socket.
