Although not available in some of the important markets, Renault has managed to sell more than 1.3 million Espace units since 1984. The MPV is currently in its 5th generation since 2015 and it has just received a facelift.

Speaking of which, there isn’t much to talk about its styling updates besides new front & rear bumpers. The photos here showcase the Initiale Paris variant finished in a Vintage Red shade. The new technology on the outside is the adaptive LED Matrix Vision headlamps, which are being used for the first time in a Renault. The 20-inch wheels are also new.

Interiors of this Initiale Paris get a new Nappa leather upholstery, 10-way power-adjustable seats with massaging, heating & ventilation functions, 10.2-inch driver display with 3D navigation, 9.3-inch Easy Link infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto compatibility, and Bose audio system.

The MPV also gets advanced driver assistance technologies such as the Highway & Traffic Jam Companion, Advanced Park Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Active Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Warning, and Driver Drowsiness Detection.

The Espace also gets a four-wheel steering system called 4Control. Up to 50 km/h, the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction to the front wheels and above 50 km/h, they turn in the same direction as the front wheels. The 4Control is paired with adjustable damping. It constantly adjusts the dampers based on various factors such as road conditions and driver inputs.

Powering the Espace is a 1.8-litre (1,798 cc) turbocharged petrol and a 2.0-litre (1,997 cc) turbocharged diesel engines; the latter is available in two states of tune. The petrol engine puts out 165 kW (224 hp) at 5,600 rpm and 300 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The Blue dCi 200 tune puts out 147 kW (200 hp) at 3,500 rpm and 400 Nm of torque at 1,750 rpm, paired with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Since 2015, the Initiale Paris trim has attracted more than 60% of Renault Espace customers, underlining the success of its repositioning as a high-end crossover. These customers will appreciate the revamped design and the new technologies which have been added to the vehicle without affecting the comfort and space that have made the model such a success for more than 35 years now. More than ever, the New Espace embodies Business Class comfort. – Valérie Candeiller, Marketing Director
