Toyota Kirloskar Motor sold a total of 7,122 vehicles in January 2020, registering a decline of 41 percent compared to 12,067 units sold during the same period in 2019. The total sales included 1,318 units of exports.

The domestic sales of 5,804 units in Jan 2020 saw a decline of 48 percent compared to 11,221 units in Jan 2019. The company also said that the BS-4 stock has been cleared and the BS-6 production has already begun.

We are happy that our BS-4 stock correction measures helped us efficiently liquidate the BS-4 inventory from our plants by January 2020. We have consciously cut down the BS-4 production this month to start delivering BS-6 vehicles in a phase-wise manner depending on BS-6 fuel availability across the country. – Naveen Soni, SVP, Sales & Service, TKM

Mr. Soni also added that the customers have responded well to the BS-6 Innova Crysta. “We have already reached nearly the equivalent of one month sales as bookings since the introductory price announcement on January 6th, 2020,” he said.

Our manufacturing plant has already transitioned to a 100% production of BS-6 vehicles and the dispatch to dealerships of all BS-6 vehicles has begun from the end of January 2020. We are cautious on how customers respond to the increased pricing of the BS-6 vehicles, especially in the diesel car market, as this will play a key role in the growth trajectory of the industry. The next few months may turn out to be highly volatile and challenging for the auto industry. TKM is making plans and continuously adjusting to match the changing market conditions. – Naveen Soni
