Renault has updated the Talisman sedan and estate models with new technology. It’ll go on sale in European markets in June 2020.

The styling updates are subtle with new chrome detailing on the grille and a modified bumper profile. The adaptive headlights are equipped with LED Matrix Vision technology and come with dynamic LED indicators. The changes on the rear-end are subtle too with new LED taillights with a chrome accent. There’s also a shark-fin antenna.

The new Talisman range also includes a range of new colours: Baltic Grey, Vintage Red, and Highland Grey. Rounding off the looks are new wheels: Pierre (17-inch), Stellar (18-inch), and Sato (19-inch).

As the driver approaches the vehicle, a lighting sequence involving headlights and door-handle lighting is activated; the interior lights then follow suit as the driver climbs aboard.

The adaptive lighting system improves safety by performing better than the traditional LED systems; compared to older models, there is 50% more light and an extended visibility range of 220 metres versus 175 metres previously, Renault said.

The refreshed interior features chrome trim on the centre console that now comes with mood lighting, while a new ceruse wood finish on the dashboard and doors adds a dash of elegance to the Initiale Paris edition. A range of 8 pre-set mood lighting modes can be selected via the Multi-Sense settings.

The Initiale Paris trim offers the choice between two types of exclusive Nappa padded-leather upholstery in Black Titanium or Light Sand-Grey with the recent addition of Cognac stitching.

Technologies onboard include a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster with the ability to display GPS navigation, 9.3-inch ‘Easy Link’ portrait-style touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, and a 13-speaker Bose premium audio system (Initiale Paris).

The Talisman also features advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), with up to an L2 autonomous driving capability. The systems include Highway & Traffic Jam Companion that combines adaptive speed control with Lane Centering Assistance, Active Emergency Braking System (AEBS) with pedestrian and cyclist detection, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Driver Drowsiness Detection, Blind Spot Warning, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

The new Talisman also comes with 4Control four-wheel steering system (standard on Initiale Paris). It is paired with adjustable damping for optimum stability and comfort by continually adjusting the shock-absorber reactivity. According to Renault, the system was optimized for greater efficiency and better body stability when driving over obstacles.

Powering the Talisman is a range of petrol and diesel engines. The TCe 160 1.3-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine puts out 160 hp and 270 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. There’s also a TCe 225 1.8-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine on offer with twin-scroll turbocharger, producing 225 hp and 300 Nm of torque, also paired with a 7-speed DCT.

For those who want Blue dCi diesel power, there’s a 1.7-litre 4-cylinder unit on offer in either 120 hp or 150 hp tunes (depending on the country), paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. In addition, the range also includes a 2.0-litre Blue dCi engine with either 160 hp or 200 hp tunes, coupled with a 6-speed DCT.

According to Renault, the 200 hp model guarantees crisp acceleration and robust pick-up.
