Chevrolet has revealed the 2021 Traverse with design and technology updates. The refreshed full-size SUV is slated to go on sale in North American markets in late 2020.

The styling cues are borrowed from the new generation Suburban/Tahoe that we saw in December 2019. Besides the redesigned front and rear fascias, the new Traverse on the exterior gets standard LED headlamps and taillamps, and 4 new wheel designs. The DRLs double as turn signals.

Inside, the refreshed Traverse gets new seating options. More options include ‘Dual SkyScape’ 2-panel power sunroof with new rear power sunshade, wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto compatibility, and an 8-inch driver information center. The new Traverse also offers wireless charging pad and USB ports in all rows.

Standard safety and driver assistance systems include Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert, IntelliBeam, and Following Distance Indicator.

Buyers can also opt for Adaptive Cruise Control – Advanced now available on 3LT, RS and Premier trims. New Safety Alert Seat is standard on Premier and High Country trims.

The press release doesn’t mention any updates to the powertrains; meaning, the refreshed Traverse is expected to retain the 3.6-litre V6 gasoline engine from the outgoing model, paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. The engine puts out 310 hp at 6,800 rpm and 266 lb-ft (361 Nm) of torque at 2,800 rpm.

The AWD system constantly monitors all 4 wheels and makes adjustments for maximum traction depending on the conditions. In low-traction situations, such as rain, sleet or snow, it can send up to 50% of engine torque to either front wheel and up to 85% to either rear wheel.

The new Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban has received an overwhelmingly positive response from consumers. The new design of the 2021 Traverse gains this new commanding appearance and presence we know Traverse owners will appreciate. – Holt Ware, Director of Chevrolet Exteriors, Crossovers and Cars
