Range Rover gets updated with mild-hybrid diesel powertrains

Land Rover has updated the big Range Rover for the model year 2021, which includes three special editions and a 48-volt mild-hybrid system for the diesel engine.

The special editions are Westminster, Westminster Black, and the SVAutobiography Dynamic Black; these three will join the recently announced Range Rover Fifty.

The Westminster Edition is based on the ‘Vogue’ trim with features including 21-inch Diamond-turned alloy wheels, privacy glass, Grand Black veneers, a Suedecloth headlining, a sliding panoramic glass roof, softclose doors, and a 19-speaker Meridian sound system. The Westminster Black Edition adds Black Exterior Pack, and buyers will be able to choose from three wheels ranging from a 21-inch 9-spoke design to a distinctive 22-inch Gloss Black 9-split-spoke design.

There’s also the SVAutobiography Dynamic Black with a fresh take on the SVAutobiography Dynamic. It features Santorini Black Metallic paintwork with Narvik Black Gloss exterior accents, 22-inch Gloss Black wheels, black calipers, and Ebony seats with Pimento stitching.

Moving on to the business end of the story, the 3.0-litre straight-six Ingenium diesel engine with 48-volt mild-hybrid system is available in 3 variants:

  • D250 – 183 kW (249 hp), 600 Nm (442 lb-ft) of torque between 1,250-2,250 rpm
  • D300 – 221 kW (300 hp), 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque between 1,500-2,500 rpm
  • D350 – 257 kW (349 hp), 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque between 1,500-3,000 rpm

For those who don’t want a diesel, Land Rover will offer the following options:

  • P400 – 3.0-litre 6-cylinder petrol, 294 kW (400 hp), 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque between 2,000-5,000 rpm
  • P400e – 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol-electric PHEV, 297 kW (404 hp), 640 Nm (472 lb-ft) of torque between 1,500-4,000 rpm
  • P525 – 5.0-litre V8 Supercharged petrol, 386 kW (525 hp), 625 Nm (461 lb-ft) of torque between at 2,500-5,500 rpm
  • P565 – 5.0-litre V8 Supercharged petrol, 415 kW (564 hp), 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque between 3,500-5,000 rpm

The P400e boasts a pure electric driving range of up to 40 km (25 mi). Compared to the original P400e‘s 85 kW (116 hp) electric motor, the one in the updated P400e is of 105 kW (143 hp). Gearbox on all variants remains to be an 8-speed automatic from ZF.
