Jaguar XE gets updated with diesel mild-hybrid powertrain

2021-Jaguar-XE

JLR continues to add the mild-hybrid system to more cars in its portfolio. This time, it’s the XE sedan, which gets the diesel MHEV powertrain, along with a few more updates. Prices start at £29,635 in the UK.

There’s not much to talk about the styling updates for 2021; the XE looks exactly the same as the facelift we saw last year. However, there’s an enhanced Black Exterior Pack which offers a stealthier appearance with bespoke elements finished in Gloss Black. These include the grille mesh, grille surround, lower air intake surrounds, side vents, window surrounds and the black exterior badging.

Updates in the cabin include the new Pivi Pro infotainment system (10-inch central touchscreen and 5.5-inch lower touchscreen), PM2.5 filtration, and 15W wireless smartphone charger with signal booster. There’s also a new Guardian Mode (UK only) which sends alerts to the owner’s smartphone.

Moving on to the business end of the story, the 2021 Jaguar XE is available with the following powertrains –

Diesel

  • 204 hp (150 kW) and 430 Nm (317 lb-ft), MHEV 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged; 8-speed automatic; RWD/AWD

Petrol

  • 250 hp (184 kW) and 365 Nm (269 lb-ft), 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged; 8-speed automatic; RWD/AWD
  • 300 hp (221 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft), 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged; 8-speed automatic; AWD

In case you didn’t notice yet, the diesel MHEV powertrain offers 24 hp more than the one it replaces (D180).

The 300 hp AWD is the quickest among the bunch, with a claimed 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time of 5.9 seconds, should such things interest you.
