The Audi A3 Sportback 40 TFSI e has now got a more powerful 45 TFSI e variant, available to order in Germany with prices starting at €41,440 (including 19% VAT). Customers are entitled to a subsidy of €6,750.

The example here is wearing a black styling package with the Singleframe grille in high-gloss black. The brake disks behind the 17-inch wheels are larger than those on the 40 TFSI e; they measure 340 mm at the front and 310 mm at the rear. All calipers are painted in red. The Matrix LED headlights remain an option.

The cabin features sport seats, two-zone auto AC, 10.1-inch MMI display, and Audi Virtual Cockpit. The driver gets to play with four modes: Auto Hybrid, Battery Hold, Battery Charge and EV.

As with its sister model, the 45 TFSI e powertrain is a combination of a 1.4-litre TFSI petrol engine and a 109 hp electric motor integrated into the housing of the 6-speed S tronic gearbox, which drives the front wheels. A tweaked software generates an additional 30 kW (41 hp) and 50 Nm (37 lb-ft) of torque, combined, compared to the 40 TFSI e, which brings the total to 180 kW (245 hp) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft).

The battery pack is of the same 13 kWh capacity, which is claimed to deliver a pure electric range of up to 74 km (45 mi) as per NEDC and up to 63 km (39 mi) as per WLTP. The battery pack charges at a maximum of 2.9 kW. Audi claims around 5 hours to recharge the pack from a conventional domestic power socket.

The car is claimed to accelerate from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 232 km/h (144 mph), should such things interest you. Its pure-electric top speed remains to be 140 km/h (87 mph).
