Bodyshell integrity: stable; footwell area: stable

Hyundai HB20, an i20-sized hatchback manufactured in Brazil, has scored zero stars in Latin NCAP crash tests. According to the report, this rating is valid for the sedan version as well. The tested model was equipped with two front airbags, front seat belt pretensioners and loadlimiters, front seat belt reminders, and rear Isofix mounts. Active safety systems such as ESC, AEB Pedestrian, AEB City and Lane Assist are optional.

Adult Occupant Protection
For the adult occupant protection, the report said that the protection offered to the driver and passenger’s head and neck was good. The driver chest showed marginal protection while the passenger chest showed adequate protection. Driver and one passenger’s knees showed marginal protection as they could impact with dangerous structures behind the fascia, while the other passenger’s knee showed good protection. Driver and passenger’s tibias showed adequate protection.

The report rates the bodyshell integrity to be stable and it was capable of withstanding further loadings; the footwell area was rated as stable as well.

As for the side impact, the head and pelvis protection was good, the abdomen protection was marginal and chest protection was poor. The side pole impact test was not performed as the car does not offer side head protection (airbags).

Child Occupant Protection
As for child occupant protection, the report says that the child seat for a 3-year-old was installed forward-facing using ISOFIX anchorages and top tethers, which were just capable of preventing excessive forward movement of the head. Neck protection was poor and chest showed low protection during the frontal impact. The restraint system for the CRS failed due to the backrest unlatch under Top tether load. The Q1.5 was installed rearward facing using ISOFIX connectors and it offered good protection to the head, neck and chest. Both dummies showed good protection in side impact tests.

Further, the report says that the car does not meet pedestrian protection regulations. Download the full report here.
