Hurtan Grand Albaycín is a new Miata from the 1940s

Hurtan-Grand-Albaycin

The Mazda MX-5 (or the Miata MX-5) is undeniably a very successful little roadster which led to the creation of the “Fiata” (Fiat 124). But, as you know, both are fairly recent models; I mean, from the recent era. While the Miata came into existence in 1989, the Fiat 124 is even newer; it was introduced in 2015. What if a Miata-equivalent existed in the 1940s?

It would’ve probably looked something like this. Of course, except for those LED headlights, taillights and all other modern bits you might notice. The Grand Albaycín is a retro-modern version of the Mazda MX-5 from Spanish coachbuilder Hurtan. Since Fiat has decided to drop the 124 Spider from its portfolio, the only other option to the modern MX-5 is probably this retro MX-5. I ain’t gonna lie, it looks pretty sweet, isn’t it?

Except for the materials, leather upholstery and Hurtan badges, the cabin remains mostly Mazda, unsurprisingly. While the seats look a little different, the rest of the interior including the steering wheel, the centre console, the gear shifter and all the electronics are the same. As with the MX-5, there’ll be a hardtop version too.

The powertrains too are the same. There’ll be 131 hp 1.5-litre or 184 hp 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engines, with the former paired with a 6-speed manual and the latter with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Download the catalogue here.

Price? Well, it starts at €59,000.
