People who like classic cars and modern EVs (including me), obviously love the idea of combining both. But unfortunately, mainstream carmakers are only interested in massive barbeque grilles for reasons beyond my understanding. Which is why there are a few boutique carmakers who have taken up the idea of marrying the timeless elegance of a ’60s body with modern EV components.

UK-based RBW EV Cars has created this MG MGB-inspired EV Roadster. The term “inspired” suggests that it’s not a barn find restomod; it’s more of an EV replica, if you will. The company claims to have created a unique Classic platform, with the latest EV technology supplied by Continental. That aluminum cap sort of a thing you see on the right side of its rump is where you plug-in to re-charge the battery pack. The battery pack comes from another UK-based company called Hyperdrive.

Inside, the digital driver display also comes from Continental, while a 7-inch central touchscreen is from Pioneer. The feature list includes satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity, USB & HDMI inputs, and electric windows. There’s a rotary knob for PRND selection, which appears to have come from a Jag. As for materials, the buyer gets to choose from five leather colors. Brochure here.

The Roadster gets a single electric motor at the rear that develops 70 kW (95 metric hp) and an undisclosed amount of torque. RBW claims a range of up to 257 km (160 mi) as standard, which can be upgraded to 322 km (200 mi) with additional battery packs. Its top speed is claimed to be 129 km/h (80 mph), should you need to know.

RBW is planning to build the EV Roadster in limited numbers, with a base price tag of £90,000 (plus taxes) for each with a £5,000 deposit. Holy lithium battery! that’s more than a 911 or Taycan’s starting price (£82,795 and £83,580, respectively) in the UK.
