Would you like to ride my dong?

That’s right. Benelli has unveiled a new e-scooter named ‘Dong’ at a recently held Expo in Indonesia. It is unclear whether the scooter is exclusive to the Indonesian market or will be launched in other Asian markets too. According to local media, the prices in Jakarta start at IDR 36,800,000 (INR 1.9 lakh or US$ 2,550).

As with a lot of e-scooters out there, the Dong certainly has a quirky styling and kinda reminds me of another cartoonish-looking e-scooter named OjO. As for the name, well, I’m told that it has multiple meanings in Indonesian language, including “please” and “too”. For Vietnamese people, the đồng is the name of their currency. Of course, for the rest of the world, it has a different meaning altogether.

While it may seem like an innocent mistake, looking at some of the design elements such as the shape of the switch panel on the handlebar and the shape of the seat-handle combo, you can’t help but wonder if the name was intentional. Either way, it looks pretty cool and if you buy one of these, I guess you can confidently say “would you like to ride my dong?”.

As for the technical bits, the Dong is powered by a tiny electric motor that develops an output of 1,200-watt (1.6 hp) and a torque of 24.8 Nm (18.3 lb-ft). A 1.56 kWh (26 Ah, 60-volt) lithium-ion battery pack is claimed to offer a range of up to 60 km (37.3 mi) on a single charge. The Dong boasts a top speed of 45 km/h (28 mph).
