Ford Explorer recalled to fix roof rails

2019-Ford-Explorer

Ford is recalling a total of 661,162 Explorer SUVs manufactured between 2016-2019, to inspect and fix defective roof rails (Ford says roof rail covers) that may get detached while driving and become a hazard for other road users. Affected models include base and XLT trims, as well as Police Interceptor and Explorer Sport with roof rails that are painted Silver, Black or Absolute Black.

Of the total recalled vehicles, 620,483 units are in the U.S. and its territories, 36,419 in Canada and 4,260 in Mexico. Ford said that it is not aware of any accidents or injuries caused by these defective roof rails.

Owners will be notified starting June 28, and dealers will secure the roof rails with plastic push pins, the company said. The reference number for this recall is 21S22.
