Mercedes-Benz EQT concept debuts with an integrated longboard

I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who thought that the EQ division is gonna use the ‘EQT’ nameplate for an all-electric pickup truck, but as we’re seeing now, the badge has been bestowed upon a new van. That’s probably due to the fact that an electric van named EQV already exists. Mercedes-Benz describes the EQT as a “near-series-production concept”, which means you can expect the production version to look almost identical.

Speaking of the looks, the EQT has all the EQ-typical design language with a star-patterned black panel at the front, a full-width light strip at the rear, and curvy surfaces everywhere; you don’t find any sharp lines or angles whatsoever. The van rides on 21-inch light-alloy wheels with triangular-shaped spokes. Notice the longboard shape on the panoramic glass roof. As for the dimensions, the van measures 4,945 mm long, 1,863 mm wide and 1,826 mm tall.

The cabin has a black and white theme with seats upholstered in white Nappa leather; the plaited part on the seat backrests is made of recycled leather. The dashboard has some kind of a tinted chrome application; apparently, it is galvanised. Thankfully, the designers have not gone crazy with the displays here; there’s not even a full digital driver display. However, the steering wheel has touch control buttons. Also, the “Hey Mercedes” voice assistant will be available as an option.

The best part of the EQT is, of course, the luggage compartment where an electric longboard can be stowed in a specially designed area that is covered with a plexiglass lid in an aluminium frame. The longboard is also made of aluminium and features a star pattern.

The new T-Class will make its market debut in 2022.
