We should also thank Volvo for its three-point seat belt.

Teslas might be riddled with fit and finish and QC issues, but the cars are fairly well built and there are a number of examples where the occupants walked away with little to no injuries after a horrifying crash. The latest example involves a Model 3 belonging to David Rea — brother of YouTube personality Andrew Rea (professionally known as Babish).

Apparently, an F-150 driver ran a stop sign and T-boned David’s Tesla, causing the vehicle to ram into a nearby pole. Looking at the photos, the passenger cabin appears fairly intact despite multiple impacts. According to Babish, Model 3’s active safety systems swerved the vehicle and lessened the impact. Other than two broken ribs, David is fine and his kids walked out uninjured.

Built with a mix of aluminum and ultra-high-strength steel, the Model 3 boasts a 5 star overall NHTSA rating. A basic Autopilot comes standard which enables the car to steer, accelerate and brake automatically in its lane. Other ADAS include emergency braking, collision warning, and blind-spot monitoring.
