2022 Honda Passport debuts with off-road craving TrailSport

Honda has updated the Passport for 2022 with the first-ever TrailSport trim that claims to offer more off-roading capabilities. Other highlights for 2022 include redesigned front fascia with standard LED headlights; updated rear fascia with new bumper and larger exhaust finishers; and standard Honda Sensing suite of safety and advanced driver-assistance systems.

The TrailSport features some unique exterior and interior styling touches compared with the other trims. These include the grille, front & rear bumpers with skid plates, unique 18-inch wheels wrapped with rugged 245/60 tires, and of course, gloss black badges versus chrome on the rest of the lineup. The TrailSport also boasts 10 mm increased front & rear track widths, and a heated windshield wiper parking area to keep them from getting stuck in frigid conditions. An off-road-tuned suspension and more aggressive tires are planned for future upgrades. The EX-L and Elite trims get new 20-inch wheel designs.

There’ll also be the HPD Package (Honda Performance Development) that apparently gets you unique grille treatment, black fender flares, aggressive wheels and special HPD graphics on the rear quarter panel.

Inside, the TrailSport stands out with orange contrast stitching on the steering wheel, door panels and seats, with the TrailSport logo embroidered on the front seat headrests and molded onto the standard all-season rubber floor mats as well. TrailSport’s gauge cluster features the same new gray lighting and white needles as the rest of the Passport lineup, but with a trim-specific black chrome gauge surround.

The aforementioned Honda Sensing suite of ADAS include Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) with Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) with Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC).

The 2022 Passport continues with a 3.5L V6 petrol engine with 209 kW (284 metric hp/280 bhp) and 355 Nm (262 lb-ft) of torque, paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. The i-VTM4 all-wheel-drive system is standard on TrailSport and Elite trims.
