Bentley Bentayga EWB debuts with Airline Seat spec

Bentley-Bentayga-EWB

The Bentley Bentayga already has a generous wheelbase of close to 3 metres, but understandably, that might not be sufficient for everyone. Which is why Bentley is offering an extended wheelbase version that offers a luxury minivan-like legroom for the rear passengers. Simply called the Bentayga Extended Wheelbase (EWB), the stretched SUV offers a 180 mm additional wheelbase over the standard-wheelbase V8 model.

From the three-quarter angles, you might not notice any difference, but the side profile makes the additional wheelbase pretty evident. The overall length is also up by 180 mm to 5,305 mm. All-wheel-steering and Bentley Dynamic Ride—a 48-volt active anti-roll control system come standard. And thanks to the aforementioned all-wheel-steering, the turning circle is said to be 7% less than a standard Bentayga, at just 11.8 metres.

But as you know, the Bentayga EWB is more about that extended rear-seat comfort. Speaking of which, the optional Bentley Airline Seat specification offers 22-ways of adjustment and what is billed as the world’s first auto climate sensing system and postural adjustment technology. In Relax mode, the seat can recline to 40 degrees, while the front passenger seat moves forward and a leather-lined footrest deploys from the back of the front passenger seat.

The auto climate sensing tech senses the occupant temperature and surface humidity and determines whether to apply heat, ventilation or both simultaneously to keep the occupant as comfy as possible. The Postural Adjustment function uses new thigh and shoulder pockets, plus additional lumbar massage pockets, which are claimed to subtly yet continuously change the shape of the seat to ease pressure points around the body, preventing dead spots and fatigue build-up.

The standard-spec offers a 4+1 seating configuration with two outer rear seats offering 16 ways of adjustment, heating, ventilation and five massage programs.

As for the juicy bits of the story, the Bentayga EWB packs a 4.0-litre V8 biturbo petrol engine with 404.5 kW (550 metric hp) and 770 Nm (568 lb-ft) of torque. The official performance figures for those who care, are 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time of 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 290 km/h (180 mph).

The Bentayga EWB is also being offered as Bentayga EWB Azure and EWB Azure First Edition; the latter is available for the first 12 months of EWB orders. On the exterior, there are blingy elements (including the 22-inch wheels) as opposed to dark and rather subtle elements on the “regular” Bentayga EWB; the First Edition gets a First Edition badge on the D-pillars, of course. Also, notice the Azure badging on the front doors.

Inside, the First Edition includes Bentley Diamond Illumination and 20-speaker Naim audio system. Notice the First Edition branding on the dashboard and seat backrests.
