Mahindra Global Pik Up concept debuts with big dreams

Along with the Vision Thar.e concept, Mahindra also showcased the Global Pik Up Concept at an event in Cape Town, South Africa. Unlike the electric Thar concept, Mahindra didn’t mention anything about the Global Pik Up concept’s powertrain, which means, you can expect the production model to debut with an ICE under the hood.

In case you haven’t figured it out already, the Global Pik Up concept is essentially a pick-up version of the second-gen Scorpio (Scorpio-N) that debuted over a year ago. It is built on the same ladder frame chassis that is claimed to make the production model to be one of the market’s most versatile and capable pick-ups. As for the design, you can expect the production model to swap concepty bits such as the bumpers, the grille, those bed-mounted spare wheels and those side steps, for more production-looking counterparts. I do hope they’ll retain the tailgate design with Mahindra branding, it kinda looks cool. For those interested to know, the pickup is designed at Mahindra India Design Studio (MIDS) in Mumbai.

The company didn’t bother sharing too much information but Mr. R Velusamy (President – Automotive Technology and Product Development, M&M Ltd.) divulged that the pick-up will have—among other things—4Xplore four-wheel-drive system, Level-2 ADAS and “immersive infotainment”. The company is also aiming for a 5-star safety rating.

So, which are the markets this so-called Global Pik Up gonna grace? Well, according to the company, the initial launch markets include South Africa, ANZ (Australia and New Zealand), MENA (Middle East and North Africa), and SCA (South and Central Asia).
