Honda Hybrid Sedan and Acura Hybrid SUV prototype

Some of you probably remember seeing or reading about Honda 0 Series of all-electric vehicles last year. Well, the company has scrapped those plans and shifted its focus to producing hybrid vehicles. If things go as planned this time, Honda will produce 15 new hybrid models under both Honda and Acura brands by 2030. Most of these new upcoming models are targeted for North America.

The first one of these new models is gonna be a Honda-branded Hybrid Sedan; we’re looking at a prototype. Although Honda calls it a sedan, it looks more like a fastback/liftback. From the rear-three-quarter angle, it looks more like a coupe-SUV. But either way, the so-called sedan has clean lines throughout with an integrated ducktail spoiler at the back. Don’t be surprised if this prototype debuts as the next-gen Accord.

We have no details on this product whatsoever, but if we understood the official statement, it’ll pack the next-gen two-motor hybrid system. In other words, there’ll be a combustion engine and an electric motor integrated into the transmission—which most likely will be a CVT. Honda is targeting to improve fuel efficiency by more than 10%. The company has also hinted that there’ll be a newly developed electric AWD unit. As for technology upgrades, the car will pack the next-gen ADAS (advanced driver assistance system).

The Acura SUV prototype looks just as clean with little to no unnecessary lines or creases. It could be the next-gen RDX, but we’ve no confirmed info on that. The aforementioned technical details hold true for this prototype too. Honda plans to introduce these two models within the next two years. You can expect one of these models or both of these to debut in production form in the second half of 2027.

Honda said that it has positioned North America, Japan and India as priority markets for its future growth strategy and will strategically allocate its resources to these markets. For the Indian market, Honda said that it’ll focus on two categories: vehicles under 4 meters in length and the mid-size category.

Honda hasn’t fully thrown away the idea of EVs, though. Specifically for the Japanese market, the company said that it’ll introduce a new N-BOX EV (kei car) in 2028.
