As we learnt last December, the mediocre sales performance of the J29/A90 Supra didn’t deter Toyota from continuing to build enthusiasts’ cars. The GR GT sure seems to pack all the necessary ingredients for a blockbuster, and what we’re seeing in the photos here appears to be the near-production model, with little to no changes expected in the final product. We don’t have the launch date yet, but we all know it’s not too far off. But in the meantime, let’s check out some photos.
From its original debut in December 2025 to today, you don’t see any visual differences, but the car has undergone continuous testing and therefore, the differences will mostly be under the skin. The “track-inspired road car with racing DNA”, as Toyota likes to describe it, looks absolutely stunning with perfect proportions in my opinion, and it’ll be a shame if it doesn’t create much sensation and excitement as the GR Yaris. Notice that there are no Toyota badges anywhere, hinting that Toyota plans to establish Gazoo Racing as a standalone performance sub-brand.
In case you didn’t know, the GR GT is a RWD hybrid sports car. The powertrain is a combination of an in-house developed 4.0L 90-degree V8 twin-turbo with a transaxle-integrated electric motor. Transmission is an 8-speed automatic (wet-start clutch). Power and torque are estimated to be 478 kW (650 metric hp) and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft). The kerb weight of 1,750 kg (3,858 lbs) and front-to-rear weight distribution of 45:55 don’t sound bad at all.
As you probably know, there’s also the GR GT3, looking even more menacing, especially in this dual-tone racing livery. The primary difference is, of course, that it’s an FIA GT3-spec customer race car and therefore drops the hybrid system.
