You all probably remember the Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed, the first of the brand’s new Mythos Series models. Well, now it’s time for the second one and it’s called the Mercedes-AMG CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung. For non-Germans, Spezialanfertigung simply means “custom-made” or bespoke. While the PureSpeed was limited to 250 units, the CLE 646 is limited to only 30 units, and most likely, AMG VIPs have grabbed all those units already.
Thanks to that wide-body design, the CLE 646 looks significantly different from the CLE 53. The car is 60 mm wider at both the front and rear. The wide bodykit is mostly made of carbon fibre, including the reinforced boot lid and manually adjustable rear wing. The front splitter can also be manually adjusted between two positions. Those stunning 20-inch forged wheels are wrapped with tyres that are based on a further development of technology created for the Mercedes‑AMG ONE. The wheels hide carbon ceramic discs measuring 420 x 40 mm at the front and 360 x 32 mm at the rear.
As for the suspension system (co-developed with KW Automotive), the CLE 646 boasts four-way adjustable damper technology with independently configurable low-speed and high-speed rebound and compression settings. And yes, the ride height has been lowered by 22 mm at the front and 16 mm at the rear.
Powering the CLE 646 is a 4.0L V8 biturbo (M177 EVO) with an integrated starter generator (ISG). The output figures are 475 kW (646 metric hp) between 6,000 and 6,250 rpm and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft) between 2,500 and 4,500 rpm. The ISG contributes 17 kW (23 metric hp) and 205 Nm (184 lb-ft) extra temporarily when needed. The engine is coupled with a 9G-Tronic automatic transmission, driving the rear wheels only. The electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential optimizes torque distribution between the rear wheels when needed. The DIN kerb weight is 1,895 kg (4,178 lbs), and the front/rear distribution is 56/44%. The official 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time is 3.9 seconds and the top speed is 310 km/h (193 mph).
There’s an integrated roll cage inside, as you can probably tell. Other key highlights include lightweight carbon-fiber door panels and lightweight high-end racing bucket seats with pronounced lateral support. A six‑point harness system is part of the optional Performance Package.
