Mahindra Thar OG launched at Rs 10.32 lakh

The second-gen Mahindra Thar has undergone a second round of facelift, but this time, there’s also a suffix. Not sure who asked for it, but the name is now ‘Thar OG’. Introductory ex-showroom prices start at 10.32 lakh. Besides a few visual tweaks, Mahindra claims to have made extensive overall improvements.

Variants Petrol Diesel
AXT RWD MT 10.32
LXT RWD MT 12.99
LXT RWD AT 14.77 16.49
ZXT RWD MT 13.99
ZXT RWD AT 16.09 17.49
LXT 4WD MT 15.60 16.43
LXT 4WD AT 17.23 18.00
ZXT 4WD MT 16.60 17.49
ZXT 4WD AT 17.75 18.99

Unfortunately, the convertible variants continue to be discontinued (as of April 2025), and if you remember, Mahindra has deleted a few important features along the way, including a Mechanical Locking Differential (MLD).

But anyway, as for the so-called Thar OG, the face now looks kinda similar to that of the Thar ROXX. However, I think the OG looks a lot cleaner than the busy-looking ROXX. The headlight units are probably the same as the ROXX, but the 5-slat grille with THAR branding looks cleaner. There’s a revised two-tone bumper too, and the fog lights are now LEDs. On the side, there’s a new set of 19-inch wheels, and if you walk towards the back, you’ll notice that the taillights have also been borrowed from the ROXX. And of course, there’s a new two-tone rear bumper too.

One of the major complaints Thar had was its bumpy/unsettling suspension. Mahindra claims to have worked on it, and this time around, the Thar OG boasts the so-called DAVINCI damping technology with frequency-dependent damping and a rear Pentalink suspension with Watts Link, which work together to offer a comfortable ride on any road.

As for powerplant options, the petrol is a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo with 119 kW (162 metric hp) and 330 Nm (243 lb-ft). The diesel is a 2.2L 4-cylinder turbo with 112 kW (152 metric hp) and 330 Nm (243 lb-ft). Both engines can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. The diesel RWD MT variant, however, gets a 1.5L 4-cylinder turbo with 87 kW (118 metric hp) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft). The 4WD variants get an Electronic Locking Differential, but the rest of the variants will have to make do with a Brake Locking Differential.

Key highlights inside include a 10.24-inch touchscreen, Android Auto & Apple CarPlay connectivity, a wireless smartphone charger, rear AC vents, leatherette-upholstered seats, front & rear USB ports, a lockable glovebox, and cruise control. Safety systems include 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, Hill Hold & Hill Descent Control, and ESP with Roll-over Mitigation. Download the brochure here.
