Yes, it is positioned above the 911
As you know, we have already entered depressing times with the advent of AI, water-sucking data centres, boring EVs, job losses, and the list goes on and on. In these tough times, Porsche has given us all something to rejoice in, and it is called the Mission S. Yes, it is a concept, but Porsche production models, as we’ve seen in the past, are pretty close to the concepts. The Porsche Mission S concept previews a couple of things: the brand’s evolved design language and a model that sits above the legendary 911. Yes, you read that right. There’s an upcoming model that is positioned above the 911.
The Mission S concept looks absolutely stunning from all angles, doesn’t it? While it has lots of gaps, gapes, slits, lines and curves, it manages to look super-clean. I guess you could say the styling is slightly a toned-down version of what we saw in the Mission R concept. My favorite styling/functional element is the roof scoop extending towards the rear and forming fins, which I think is clever. There may also be subtle retro vibes, thanks to some inspiration from the Porsche 550 Spyder and the 356.
As you can probably tell, the concept shows a mid-engined architecture, and the exposed radiator fan is reminiscent of the Porsche 917. An integrated active rear wing is another highlight at the back. On the side, you got wheels that are based on the iconic ‘dial design’ of the 928.
Understandably, Porsche is tight-lipped about exactly what’s behind that fan, but those vertical-mounted tailpipes suggest that the Mission S is not gonna be fully electric. Don’t be surprised if the production model packs a flat-six mild-hybrid or full-hybrid.
Inside, there’s a mix of analogue and digital stuff, but notice that there’s no giant touchscreen on the dashboard. Instead, there’s a retractable MagSafe platform for your smartphone. The instrument cluster is also a mix of analogue and digital elements, and some of these pods physically move based on the driving mode and/or other variables. Watch the trailer above to understand.
