Hyundai has teased a new sub-compact crossover named ‘Kona’, expected to be premiered at the New York Auto Show later this month. The new B-Segment SUV gets its name from the Kona district on the Big Island of Hawaii, “reflecting the island’s energetic image and unique lifestyle”, says Hyundai.

Hyundai says the Kona will be the fourth member of the brand’s SUV family in Europe after Grand Santa Fe, Santa Fe and Tucson, suggesting that the new SUV will be first introduced in Europe. No technical details are available at the moment, but according to several media reports, the Kona will be built on a modified i20 platform.

Its yet to be known if the Kona makes it to the Indian market, probably time will be the deciding factor. Or maybe if Indians get bored with the Creta. “Kona’s progressive design and premium features enhance the brand’s appeal to attract new customers”, says Hyundai.
