Polestar optimises 100,000 Volvo cars

Volvo-Polestar-Optimisation

Volvo Cars’ performance brand Polestar has done powertrain optimizations for 100,000 Volvo cars around the globe since its introduction, the company said in an official statement. The milestone is due to the sales hitting an all-time high in the first five months of 2017, with over 12,000 cars optimized, a growth of over 30% compared to last year.

Besides developing a performance variant of an existing car, Polestar’s ‘Optimised’ program tweaks five key areas of the powertrain in a standard car, including engine performance, throttle response, gearshift speed, gear hold functionality and off-throttle response. The latest demand for Polestar optimizations is coming for the models equipped with Volvo’s Drive-E series engine, which is a key factor to the increase in numbers, says Volvo.

“Changes are based on learnings from thousands of laps on racing circuits all over the world by Cyan Racing, the motorsport partner of Polestar.” – Volvo

The most popular Volvo model for optimization is the XC60, closely followed by the XC90 and V60, with China, Sweden and the United States as the top three markets in terms of sales volumes. The new XC60 will join the optimization program from July.

“This is an important milestone for Polestar and proof of the increasing demand from performance-oriented Volvo customers around the world,” said Johan Lindqvist, Head of Global Sales at Polestar. “We are well on our way to our best year in terms of sales and we have further exciting products just around the corner.”

All changes of the Polestar Optimization are made with certified emissions, fuel consumption, service intervals and Volvo warranties unchanged, added the statement.

The optimization portal is fairly easy to use. Select a model, select a market, choose a model year and done. It shows you the available options. As you can see in the above example, the S90 gets an additional 5 hp and 20 Nm more.

The Polestar brand was recently introduced in India with the S60 Polestar, priced at Rs 52.5 lakh.
