Audi has some good news for the Americans who’ve been waiting for the RS 6 Avant, as the 2020 model is confirmed for the market. The high-performance wagon will be 8th model in Audi Sport U.S. lineup in 2020.

Throughout our 25-year RS history, the Audi RS 6 Avant is one of our absolute icons with a large global fan base. We will also be offering the RS 6 Avant in North America for the very first time. As such, we will be tapping into a new market with huge potential and generating further growth. – Oliver Hoffmann, Managing Director, Audi Sport GmbH

Compared to the new generation A6 or even the A6 Avant, the 2020 RS 6 Avant sports a super aggressive face with sharp angles and large air intakes. The tiny opening with three slits above the main grille, which made its debut in the 2019 A1 Sportback, is present here too. The body is around 1.6 inches (40 mm) wider on each side with broad flared wheel arches.

The rear-end looks equally aggressive with a roof edge spoiler and an RS-specific bumper with design elements in gloss black. In hallmark RS style, the exhaust system flows on both sides into oval tailpipes. Overall, the 2020 RS 6 Avant features a new RS design language which will make its way into the other RS members of the family.

The interior layout looks familiar with two touchscreens where the top one is flush with the black-panel design. Other features include Audi Virtual Cockpit with special RS displays providing information on tire pressure, torque, power output, engine oil temperature, boost pressure, lap times, acceleration measurements and g forces.

The 2020 Audi RS 6 Avant will be powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 gasoline engine, producing 441 kW (600 metric hp) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque, paired to an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission with optimized shift times, sending power to all four wheels via quattro permanent all-wheel drive system. The quattro sport differential actively splits the torque between each of the rear wheels.

The new RS 6 Avant is claimed to sprint from 0-100 km/h (62.1 mph) in 3.6 seconds and achieve a top speed of 250 km/h (155.3 mph).

The standard Audi drive select system offers 6 modes – comfort, auto, dynamic, efficiency, and individually configurable RS-specific RS1 and RS2 modes, which can be activated directly via RS Mode button on the steering wheel.

The Audi drive select setting influences the engine and transmission management, power steering, suspension, dynamic all-wheel steering, the sport differential, and the engine sound. The RS2 mode specifically influences the Electronic Stabilization Control (ESC) directly at the push of a button, Audi said.

The new RS 6 Avant gets adaptive air suspension with controlled damping; it can be set to several modes, including an automatic level control. An RS sport suspension with Dynamic Ride Control is optional; these single-tube dampers apparently have a variable characteristic that the driver can adjust in three stages. Hydraulic lines and a central valve, link the diagonally opposed pairs of shock absorbers.

When cornering at speed, the valves regulate the oil flow in the shock absorber of the spring-deflected front wheel at the outside of the curve, which helps reduce pitch and roll movement, and improves handling, Audi said.
