Porsche has added some more variants to the 3rd generation Cayenne lineup. This time, the new models are plug-in hybrid variants. In addition to the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid, the recent model Cayenne Coupe has also received its plug-in hybrid siblings called Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid Coupe and Cayenne E-Hybrid Coupe.

The Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid is a powerful variant of the Cayenne E-Hybrid which debuted last year. It combines a 4.0-litre (3,996 cc) V8 biturbo petrol engine that produces 405 kW (550 hp) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque, and an electric motor with an output of 100 kW (136 hp) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. The system output is 500 kW (680 hp) between 5750-6000 rpm and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque between 1500-5000 rpm. The Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid Coupe’s specification is the same as well. Both models are claimed to accelerate from 0 – 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 295 km/h (183 mph).

Thanks to 14.1 kWh liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery pack (underneath the loadspace floor), both models offer a pure electric range of 40 km (24 mi). Porsche claims that the battery can be fully charged within 2.4 hours with the standard 7.2 kW onboard AC charger when using a 400-volt connection with a 16-amp fuse. With a 230-volt conventional socket, the charging process takes 6 hours. Charging can also be scheduled via Porsche Communication Management (PCM) or the Porsche Connect app.

The electric motor is located between the V8 engine and the 8-speed Tiptronic S transmission. The two motors are interconnected via a separating clutch inside the hybrid module, referred to as the Electric Clutch Actuator (ECA). In E-Power driving mode, Porsche says that the electric motor can, on its own, propel the vehicle up to a maximum speed of 135 km/h (84 mph). It can also be used in the other modes for an additional power boost. These modes can be selected via the standard Sport Chrono Package (Hybrid Auto, Sport and Sport Plus). This boost strategy has been taken from the 918 Spyder, apparently.

While this was all about the two top models, the aforementioned Cayenne E-Hybrid Coupe is a less powerful variant. It packs a 3.0-litre turbo V6 with the same electric motor found in the powerful ones. It has a system output of 340 kW (462 hp) and a torque of 700 Nm (516 lb-ft). With the standard Sport Chrono Package, this model is claimed to sprint from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.1 seconds; top speed is 253 km/h (157 mph).
