In case you haven’t guessed it already, the new Toyota Granace is a luxurious version of the 6th generation Hiace that debuted earlier this year. The Granace is also sold as Hiace ‘Super Grandia’ in the Philippines, and as ‘Majesty’ in Thailand.

Compared to the standard wheelbase Hiace, the Granace measures 5,300 mm in length (+35 mm), 1,970 mm in width (+20 mm) and 1,990 mm in height. The wheelbase of 3,210 mm is the same too. Some of the design inspiration appears to have come from the Alphard/Vellfire, with generous usage of chrome on the front fascia. That said, the chrome at the rear looks relatively minimal. The wheels are 17-inch alloys.

The interiors look luxurious too, thanks to the usage of materials such as leather (synthetic), wood, and metal accents. Features include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, auto AC, 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat, and USB ports and 12-volt sockets.

In addition to the 3-row 6-seater, a 4-row 8-seater is also available. The former gets captain seats for the second and third rows. There are tastefully applied wood accents too at the rear and the LED ambient lighting adds a touch of elegance.

The Granace comes standard with the latest version of Toyota Safety Sense, featuring the pre-collision safety system that detects pedestrians during the day and at night, as well as cyclists during the day. Also included is Intelligent Clearance Sonar with Parking Support Brakes, a technology that helps mitigate damage from collisions during low-speed driving in parking lots, for example.

Powering the Granace is a 2.8-litre (2,755 cc) 4-cylinder turbocharged (VNT) diesel engine that puts out 120 kW (163 hp) at 3,600 rpm and 420 Nm of torque between 1,600 – 2,200 rpm, paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels.

The new Toyota Granace will make its public debut at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show.
