The Opel Grandland X compact crossover (sold as Vauxhall Grandland in the UK) also comes in a Hybrid4 AWD (PHEV) variant that combines a 1.6L petrol engine and two electric motors. For those who don’t want that AWD configuration, Opel is offering the Grandland X PHEV with only a single electric motor. In Germany, the prices for this FWD model starts at €43,440 (including VAT).

The Grandland X PHEV FWD eliminates the rear electric motor. It combines a 133 kW (181 hp) 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine and an 81 kW (110 hp) electric motor at the front, producing a system output of 165 kW (224 hp) and up to 360 Nm (265 lb-ft) of torque. Just to compare, the AWD model offers a system output of 300 hp. Transmission is an 8-speed automatic.

The 13.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack is claimed to offer a pure electric range of up to 57 km/36 mi (as per WLTP). The Grandland X Hybrid offers three drive modes – Electric, Hybrid, and Sport, which are self-explanatory. A 0-100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration is claimed to happen in 8.9 seconds and the PHEV can reach a maximum speed of 225 km/h (140 mph).

Included is a 3.7 kW onboard charger (a 7.4 kW version is optional). The battery pack is located underneath the rear seats, in case you’re wondering.

Opel plans to electrify the entire lineup by 2024.
