Second gen Hyundai Creta debuts at 2020 Auto Expo

The second-generation Hyundai Creta was completely mobbed at the 2020 Auto Expo near New Delhi, so much so that the security had to block the entrance even for the media for some time.

The Creta is an important vehicle for the Indian market. In fact, it inspired Kia Motors to enter the market with the Seltos and the rest as we all know, is history. The new Creta is already on sale in China. Remember, in China, it is known as iX25.

In photos and videos, it may not impress everyone, but in person, the design quickly grows on you. The dual-lamp setup has become a design trend these days especially for SUVs and personally, I like the way it looks. The headlamp design is pretty similar to the Hyundai Palisade that is on sale in the international markets.

The side profile is very much recognizable as a Creta with subtle changes. The new model retains the blacked-out A and B pillars. There are new 17-inch alloy wheels too which look proportional to the vehicle body. At the rear, the taillamp design mimics the front, and I like the way the ‘Creta’ wordmark has been badged here; it shows Hyundai’s confidence in the Creta brand.

This particular model also gets a large sunroof. Overall, the design doesn’t look as “Badass” as the Seltos but it looks very refreshing and when it gets launched, it might even eat into the sales of the Seltos.

I’m told that the new Creta is based on the same platform as the Seltos. Its dimensions are expected to be identical to the outgoing model.

The interiors are not the same as the one in China, this prototype looks a bit different, especially the dashboard and the infotainment system. The steering wheel appears to be flat-bottomed, which I personally like.

As for the powertrains, in China, it is available with a 115 hp 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with a CVT or a 6-speed manual transmission. The Indian market might get the same powertrains as the outgoing model or might simply borrow from the Seltos.
