Hyundai’s luxury marque Genesis has revealed the new G80 sedan, branded as a third-generation model (Hyundai Genesis is a first-gen model). It’ll go on sale in South Korea, followed by other markets in the second half of the year starting with North America.

The styling/design language is similar to that of the GV80 SUV with elements such as Quad Lamps, Crest grille, Parabolic Line on the side, and 20-inch wheels. The rear three-quarter angle is from where the G80 looks stunning with its fastback styling and a subtle upswept decklid.

Inside, the layout looks a bit different from the GV80 except for that 14.5-inch infotainment system and the elements on the centre console including a rotary shift dial and touch-and-write Controller. The designers have given the steering wheel’s centre section a unique look to differentiate it from Hyundai products.

Genesis said that the new G80 features improved door sealing, new engine compartment sound insulation and resonant sound-reducing wheels to ensure class-leading, low levels of noise (NVH). In addition, the Electronically Controlled Suspension with Road Preview enhances ride quality by utilizing the information from the front camera.

Luxury-focused features include the driver’s seat with an ergo motion seat function featuring seven air cells, that is claimed to enable optimum seating for each driving mode and reduce fatigue via a stretching mode and automatic posture correction functions. Lexicon sound system and dual rear-seat touchscreen displays are some of the other items.

More features include Remote Smart Parking Assistant (RSPA), and Valet mode where the users’ personal information does not appear on infotainment screens when using a Valet parking service.

Passive safety includes a total of 10 airbags (including a center airbag, between the front seat occupants).

Built on a new, brand-exclusive rear-wheel-drive platform, the G80 offers three powertrains: a 2.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 304 hp and 422 Nm (311 lb-ft) of torque; a 3.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 380 hp and 530 Nm (391 lb-ft) of torque; and a 2.2-litre diesel engine with 210 hp and 441 Nm (325 lb-ft) of torque.

Transmission appears to be an 8-speed automatic, sending the output to the rear wheels as standard. AWD will be optional.

Aluminum makes up for about 19% of the body, reducing the weight by 125 kg (275 lbs) compared to the previous one.
