The Toyota Yaris Cross is now on sale in the Japanese market, with prices starting at JPY 1,798,000 (US$ 17,015 or INR 12,47,900). Toyota has set a monthly sales target of 4,100 units.

The Yaris Cross is available in FWD and AWD configurations; the latter is badged ‘E-Four’ in Hybrid models. The range-topping Hybrid Z E-Four costs JPY 2,815,000.

The non-hybrid models are powered by a 1.5-litre (1,490 cc) 3-cylinder petrol engine (M15A-FXS) that develops 120 metric hp (88 kW) at 6,600 rpm and 145 Nm (107 lb-ft) of torque between 4,800-5,200 rpm. Transmission is a CVT. It appears that a 6-speed manual gearbox is exclusive to European markets.

The hybrid is a combination of a 1.5-litre (1,490 cc) 3-cylinder Atkinson-cycle petrol engine (M15A-FXE) and two electric motors (only one motor for FWD variants). The ICE develops 91 metric hp (67 kW) at 5,500 rpm and 120 Nm (88 lb-ft) of torque between 3,800-4,800 rpm. The front e-motor develops 80 metric hp (59 kW) and 141 Nm (104 lb-ft) of torque, while the rear motor offers 5.3 metric hp (3.9 kW) and 52 Nm (38 lb-ft) of torque. The combined output, however, is 116 metric hp (85 kW). Transmission is an eCVT. Download the specification sheet here (Japanese).
