Peugeot 5008 gets styling and tech updates

Peugeot has updated its 5008 mid-size SUV with new styling and the latest technologies onboard. It’ll go on sale in European markets at the end of 2020.

The styling updates are inline with the recently updated Peugeot models such as the 2008 and 208. The front fascia has been sharpened up with generous sharp lines and creases and fangs-like running lights that add to the aggression. The new grille is frameless and the extended fins sort of create an illusion of merging into the headlight housing. Speaking of the headlights, they are full LEDs with integrated ‘foggy mode’ function.

At the rear, there are ‘3D Claws’ LED taillights in a smoked glass housing. The turn signals are sequential. The GT Pack gets 19-inch ‘San Francisco’ diamond-studded aluminium wheels. Two new exterior colors have joined the palette: Celebes Blue and Metallic Cooper.

There’s also a new ‘Black Pack’ option offered on the range-topping GT and GT Pack trims. It gets gloss black styling elements, lion logo in dark chrome, and 19-inch ‘Washington’ black wheels.

The refreshed interior gets a new i-Cockpit system comprising a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10-inch central infotainment display; the latter boasts 3D connected navigation. Options include a 515-watt Focal audio system. Depending on the trim, there are new materials such as red Nappa leather upholstery and Alcantara lining.

Safety and driver assistance systems would include Night Vision, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, Lane Position Assist, Automatic Emergency Braking, and Extended Traffic Sign Recognition.

Powertrains
Moving on to the business end of the story then, the Peugeot 5008 continues to be powered by the existing set of powertrains. These include a 130 hp 1.2-litre 3-cylinder PureTech petrol engine paired with either a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic transmission; a 180 hp 1.6-litre 4-cylinder PureTech petrol engine paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission; a 130 hp 1.5-litre 4-cylinder BlueHDi diesel engine paired with either a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic transmission; and a 180 hp 2.0-litre 4-cylinder BlueHDi diesel engine paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
