MG Motor’s next big thing in India, literally, is the Gloster SUV. For the uninitiated, the name comes from a former British aircraft company that produced fighter planes, while the vehicle itself comes from a Chinese brand called ‘Maxus’ (also part of SAIC). Meaning, the Gloster is a badge-engineered version of Maxus D90.

That’s not a big deal. The big deal, however, is that the Gloster comes with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), also referred to as active safety systems, which are normally standard in the markets elsewhere even in small vehicles.

The ADAS in the Gloster include Forward Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Detection, Lane Departure Warning, and Adaptive Cruise Control (up to 150 km/h). The SUV also gets Automatic Parking Assistant, which can automatically park the vehicle in parallel or perpendicular spaces.

Other key features on offer include a 12-way power adjustable driver’s seat with massage function, heated front seats, 2nd-row captain seats, 64-color ambient lighting, an 8-inch digital driver’s display, a 12.3-inch central touchscreen, and i-Smart 2.0 connected car technologies that claim to offer over 70 features including remote control of certain features via an app.

Powertrain
The Gloster is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder twin-turbo diesel engine, made by Shanghai Diesel Engine Co., developing 218 hp (160 kW) and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) of torque. The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. A BorgWarner transfer case comes as standard. The 4WD system offers 7 drive modes: Snow, Mud, Sand, Eco, Sport, Normal and Rock.
