The 3rd generation Bentley Flying Spur has now got a V8 powertrain with respectable output figures and is around 100 kg (220 lbs) lighter than its W12 sibling. It’ll go on sale at the end of this year in the UK and Europe, followed by the other global markets in 2021.

For the V8 model, Bentley is offering 7 exterior colors to choose from as standard. However, there’s an extended color palette with over 60 colors including the ones from Mulliner. The blackline specification adds dark styling elements including a dark version of the illuminated electric Flying B. As standard, the car rides on 20-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels, while the 22-inch gloss black Mulliner Driving Specification wheels can be found in the options list. Quad exhaust finishers come standard.

The V8’s cabin looks just as luxurious as its W12 sibling’s with standard materials including Crown Cut Walnut and high quality leather upholstery. The options list includes 10 hide colors, two-tone themes, 7 veneer species, high-gloss carbon fibre technical finish and so on. The Bentley Rotating Display is also available on the V8.

The Adaptive Air Suspension is standard, while the Electronic All-Wheel Steering is in the options list.

Moving on to the business end of the story then, the 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo petrol engine pumps out 550 hp (404 kW) and 770 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. The gearbox is the same 8-speed automatic that drives all four wheels. A 0-100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration is claimed to happen in 4.1 seconds and so is the top speed of 318 km/h (197 mph).

To maximize fuel economy, the V8 shuts off four of its eight cylinders under light-load conditions; when the torque demand is below 235 Nm (173 lb-ft) and the engine speed is below 3,000 rpm.
