BMW of North America is recalling certain Z4 and Toyota Supra cars over faulty fuel tanks that could increase the fire risk. The weld between the fuel tank halves is suspected to be insufficient, which could result in a fuel leak and a risk of fire.

A total of 35 Supras (manufactured between April 2019 – July 2020) and 14 Z4s (manufactured between June 2019 – July 2020) are suspected to be having a faulty fuel tank. The owners will be notified by the respective companies and the dealers will replace the faulty fuel tank free of charge. The replacement fuel tank is expected to be available in January 2021. Meanwhile, the owners may also contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 or Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371.

Both companies have also asked their respective dealers to stop selling any cars in their inventory that were manufactured between the aforementioned period.
