That’s a lada Japanese looks

Renault’s Russian brand Lada has revealed the new Niva SUV that is all set to go on sale in the country. For the uninitiated, the Lada Niva was branded as Chevrolet Niva until August 2020 when it was being produced by GM-AvtoVAZ joint venture; AvtoVAZ is the parent of the Lada brand, which is a subsidiary of Groupe Renault since 2016. The updated Niva is branded as Niva Travel.

Now that’s out of the way, let’s talk a little bit about its new styling. The designers have mainly refreshed the front and rear fascias; the former should instantly remind you of the Toyota RAV4. The headlights, the grille design and the placement of the logo, all remind you of the RAV4. On the side profile, the wheel arches have been made a bit more squarish, while the rear-end features new taillights and a revised bumper. There are a new set of wheels too.

It’s refreshed cabin is yet to be revealed; will update once that happens. The Lada is a 4WD off-roader, powered by a 1.7-litre (1,690 cc) 4-cylinder petrol engine that develops 59 kW (80 metric hp) and 127 Nm (94 lb-ft) of torque. The engine is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The powertrain is expected to be the same on the new one.
